NOTE: Scholarship applications are due on or before Tuesday, July 1, 2009. The William Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund, so named by Pastor Walker, had a humble beginning. The late Pastor William Wilson had a great thirst for knowledge characterized by his continuous pursuit of education. At the time of the accident, which contributed to the illness that led to his death he was enrolled at Wayne State studying Psychology. Not only did he have a great love and appreciation fro education himself, but he also had a strong desire for the youth and young people of our church family to pursue higher learning. To this end he organized the scholarship fund. The end result was that many of the youth and young people of this church were the recipients of financial aid that helped them to go on to college and other institutions of higher learning. When the Lord sent Reverend Larry J. Walker Sr. to Oakland to become Pastor little did we know God was giving to our church family a "Sheppard according to His own heart." He was well educated in both the secular and sacred fields, and would intensify his own acquisition of knowledge. He would create greater resources for our youth to attend various institutions of higher learning. One of these resources is the "Annual Scholarship Banquet." This banquet allows the church to help more of those in need and to a greater degree. Not only did Pastor Walker continue and enhance the educational offerings of our church, but also under his leadership we continue to give scholarship aid to more of our youth and young people. An educational facility was erected and given the name of the late Pastor William Wilson. The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it will never forget what we do here; and what we do here is perpetuate an idea advanced by the United Negro College Fund that "A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste!"
